The learning programme offers teachers the chance to develop confidence and skills in the classroom, along with furthering professional development through a variety of innovative and interactive technology, as well as extending learning opportunities for pupils. All workshops are hands on and subject driven.

As part of the BBC’s commitment to educate and inspire, the learning centre develops and runs free-of-charge multimedia workshops for 5-19 years old from UK based schools, colleges and community groups, five days a week.

21CC covers all aspects of multimedia from film-making and video journalismto graphic design, music production, animation and podcasting.

“21CC is open to any school that wants to come in” says project manager Sally Briggs.

“We can work in  traditional media like film-making and video, but also new media like web design. We’re really big on podcasting and we use video-conferencing to link up with schools around the country.”

Workshops can be tailored for specific groups’ needs, taking place in a day or over a series of workshops (in the case of secondary schools and colleges working towards coursework material). 21CC works alongside BBC Blast and other BBC initiatives.
